{"id":1839,"date":"2020-09-08T17:14:27","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T15:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=366622"},"modified":"2020-09-08T17:14:27","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T15:14:27","slug":"eskom-to-implement-stage-1-load-shedding-on-wednesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/interwebdev.co.za\/index.php\/2020\/09\/08\/eskom-to-implement-stage-1-load-shedding-on-wednesday\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom to implement stage 1 load-shedding on Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Eskom-logo-dark.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Eskom has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Eskom_SA\/status\/1303348177781825537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>announced<\/strong><\/a> that it will implement stage 1 load-shedding from 16:00 until 22:00 on Wednesday 9 September.<\/p>\n<p>Load-shedding will be suspended for the remainder of Tuesday 8 September, the power utility said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have cancelled stage 1 for this evening,\u201d Eskom said. \u201cNo load-shedding to be implemented tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTomorrow, we will implement load-shedding stage 1 from 16:00 until 22:00.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This follows after Eskom announced that load-shedding would be downgraded to stage 1 and would only be implemented from 16:00 until 22:00 tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom said at the time that this downgrade of its initial planned load-shedding was due to the return to service of power generation units as of Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>The power utility stated that it will continue to communicate any changes to the supply situation.<\/p>\n<h3>Renewable future<\/h3>\n<p>Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter has <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/energy\/366574-eskoms-future-is-renewable-energy-ceo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>said<\/strong><\/a> that the future of the power utility lies in energy sources like solar and wind power.<\/p>\n<p>He said, however, that it will cost Eskom R60 billion over the next decade to make its power fleet environmentally compliant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is money which we frankly just don\u2019t have,\u201d De Ruyter said.<\/p>\n<p>He recognised that Eskom cannot continue to violate environmental laws, and said this provides the national power provider with an opportunity to move to cleaner energy.<\/p>\n<p>This change requires certain regulatory approvals, and Eskom is engaging with the government in this regard.<\/p>\n<h3>Now read: <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/energy\/366574-eskoms-future-is-renewable-energy-ceo.html\" rel=\"bookmark\">Eskom\u2019s future is renewable energy \u2013 CEO<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/energy\/366622-eskom-to-implement-stage-1-load-shedding-on-wednesday-2.html\">Source: MyBroadband<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has announced that it will implement stage 1 load-shedding from 16:00 until 22:00 on Wednesday 9 September.
